The time in Brazil is: |

The Clock of the Church In 1912 the people in the Evangelic Church in São Leopoldo donated money to buy a clock from the Germans. São Leopoldo is a city in the south of Brazil, in a state called Rio Grande do Sul. It was settled by the Germans, who arrived here in 1824. The church was inaugurated on November 15, 1911 and we believe the clock was put in the tower on the first of May, 1912. The tower of the church was tall, very tall. All the people could see the clock and its four faces. There is a bell, maybe more, in the tower. In the past the bell announced the time of the day, of prayers, of funerals. At present, the first bell in the church rings twice a year: on the 25th of July, to celebrate the German Immigrants' arrival and on November 15, the date the new church was inaugurated. |
