Two more of the caterpillar's changed into chyrsalis' today! They
just crawled to the top and started to change. Today we got to
see it though! First they crawled up the side of the cup to the top
of the cup. Then we saw them making their silk. They really do
move their heads from side to side. We couldn't really see the silk coming
out of their mouths, it is too hard through the cup and it is so
small to see. When he was ready he hung upside down like a "J" and
rested. Then we started to see him move every once in a while. He looks
funny. Wendy says that he looks like he is doing a sit-up. He is
stretching the skin off of himself. The old skin. Pretty soon when
we checked again the caterpillar was gone and there was just
a chrysalis there. It is kind of a gold or brownish color. We were
surprised that it didn't take that long for him to change. He must be
in a hurry to change into a butterfly. Wendy says that as soon as
they are done changing we have to take them out of the cup and put
them in a big aqarium. We have to do that because there isn't enough
room for them to hatch in the cups.
Here is my picture of what the chyrsalis looks like.
