NAME ________________________________

- Veterans' Day was first proclaimed by President Woodrow
Wilson (then called Armistice Day) on November 11, 1919, to
commemorate the first anniversary of the end of World War I.
How many years ago is that? Through which decades have we

- Armistice Day became Veterans' Day in November of 1954.
How many months ago is that?
- Our flag has 13 stripes of alternating colors. If there
are 50 flags in our school, how many red stripes are there?
How many white stripes? How many stars?
- How many total veterans participated in all of the U.S.
wars since the Revolutionary War? How many deaths in
service? Make a ratio of deaths to participants. Use the
fraction to decimal key on your calculator to help find the
% of servicemen who died for our freedom.
- If the length of a flag is 18 inches and the width is 12
inches, what is the area? (Remember that Area = length X
width.) What is the perimeter? Suppose we double each of
the measurements. Will the area be doubled? Will the
perimeter?

- There were about 4 times as many participants in World
War II as World War I. What fraction would represent World
War I participants to World War II participants?
