The invention or improvement to be examined shall be accompanied by a clear description and drawings of the same, together with a model, if required, and also a statement on the particulars of the inventor’s claim to originality.

Above is a postcard from Committee on Science and the Arts committee member Hugo Bilgram, making reference to the use of slides for the purpose of illustrating the function of the Burroughs machine.

Such slides were indeed furnished for use by the Committee on Science and the Arts. This and other lantern slides are still kept on file at The Franklin Institute Science Museum.
