Delta Glider

Place the A4 sheet on your bench as shown. Fold it down the centre, then open it out.

Illustration

Fold corners A and B until they meet the centre fold.

Stick the folded pieces together with small pieces of transparent tape.

Illustration

Fold the paper or card down the centre crease again and draw a dashed line one centimeter from the edge as shown. Turn it over and do the same on the other side.

Illustration

Fold back the paper or card along the lines so that you can hold the spine underneath the glider. Stick the model together as shown.

Illustration

The aircraft is called a delta glider because it is shaped like the Greek letter called delta. Try launching the glider. It is likely that it will be too light at the front. Add a paper clip to the nose of the aircraft, making it easier for the glider to fly through the air.

Delta planes have elevons that serve as both ailerons and elevators. Make elevons by cutting slits two centimeters long in the positions shown.

Illustration

You should now be able to fold the elevons upwards or downwards along the dotted lines. What happens when both elevons are raised or lowered?

Illustration

What happens when one elevon is raised while the other is level or lowered?
