The EggIt all began with the mating practice of Frederick’s father, attracting his mother with his nocturnal symphony! Mating occurred and the eggs were laid in water and fertilized.Go on a Frog Egg Hunt: http://www.nwf.org/kidzone/kzPage.cfm?siteId=3&departmentId=154&articleId=338 Stage 1The larva emerged from the egg and hatched within approximately 6 days. This first stage of the larva is known as the tadpole. It is completely aquatic with external gills to absorb oxygen and travels around like a fish, using its tail to propel itself. The tadpole is water-dwelling and plant-eating; it feeds on algae. Frog tadpoles usually swim alone; they are brown, green, or gray. The tail began to shrink. A little after three months, the tadppole metamorphosed into a land animal, losing its gills, which were replaced by lungs. Its tail and aquatic mouth parts disappeared and it gradually grew into the figure of a frog. The frog changed into a meat-eating, air-breathing adult living on the land. Adult frogs like Frederick, feed on insect larvae, spiders, other frogs and worms. Frogs have protruding eyes, webbed feet and strong hind legs adapted to leaping. Do you know what a Vivarium is?
