Frederick began to become sluggish as the fall approached. Like all amphibians, Frederick hibernated to escape the cold. His body functions, such as heartbeat and breathing, began to slow down. He burrowed into the mud and began to breathe by absorbing oxygen through his skin. To this day, the cycle continues! Frederick will emerge in the spring, and, as male frogs do, will fill the air with his chorus of music, to attract the female frogs for mating.
