The Pawwnee women dressed for ceremonies by wearing necklaces of bone beads. They held fans of eagle feathers. They wore their hair braided intow two long braids.
The Pawnee Indians lived in villages. Their homes were large, sturdy earth lodges. These lodges were next to the corn fields. The villages had 10 to 12 of these large, round houses. They lived in tepees made of buffalo skins during the hunting season.
The women’s jobs were to raise the crop. The Pawnee would et from this crop: corn, squash, and beans. The women would also cook and make bowls and spoons. The men would hunt buffalo and go to war.
The Pawnee Indians grew corn, beans, and pumpkins and harvested wild rice. They also hunted for game and fished. They hunted buffalo twice a year for meats and skins. They only hunted buffalo twice a year because they thought the buffalo were from the spirits.
A Pawnee man would get married several times, but the kids would stay with the mom.
