The Living Things Small Learning Community has been working collectively to create a program that is an evolving product of hands-on education between the students and living things. Our culminating activity for Public Science Day was one such enriching achievement.

As a gift, our principal invested in a bird aviary for the school zoo. Following an awards ceremony, it was presented to the school, and a variety of new birds were placed in it. A birdhouse and several plants were also dedicated to the school, and we had a day of hands-on activities to follow.

"The Very Hungry Caterpillar" was read aloud to students, and then they made Pom-Pom Caterpillar magnets. "Jack and the Beanstalk" was also read, and students planted herbs to take home with them at the end of the day. Students enjoyed a snack of animal crackers to conclude their exciting day of "Living Things."
