My name's Noah, and I'm a
meteorologist. When most people think of
meteorologists, they think of the people on TV who tell you
about the day's weather. But did you know that
meteorologists do lots of different jobs? And most of us are
not on TV.
Meteorologists study the atmosphere and its phenomena. That
includes a few big subjects:
- weather on a day-to-day-basis
- chemistry of the atmosphereespecially looking for
pollution and environmental concerns
- climatethe long term trends of weather
I'm a forecaster for the National Weather Service. But I
started out as a kid with a strong interest in math and
scienceas well as a special reason to be watching the
weather. When I was about nine years old, my dad was a high
school baseball coach. He let me sit on the bench and keep
score for the team. Playing outdoors, rain was the enemy,
because no one wanted the game to get rained out! So I
watched the weather forecasts constantly, and I have ever
since.
