My name is Ashish, and I'm a medicinal
chemist. I work on molecules to create new drugs to
cure and treat diseases.
When I was fifteen years old, I began asking questions about medicines. I was especially curious about herbal medicines, which were common in the area where I lived in the southern part of India. I wanted to know about the actual chemical compounds in these herbal medicines that were responsible for curing the diseases. The herbal doctor—without any knowledge of western medicine—inspired and encouraged me to study medicinal chemistry. Now I work in the United States for a biotechnology company that develops drugs to cure diseases. It's a small organization and the expectations are high. My colleagues are well educated and experienced in their own fields and it is a nice atmosphere to get suggestions and help if I need any. |
